Prepare to embark on an enlightening journey as we launch a new series - "Clash of the Covenants." Through this series, we'll be marinating in thought-provoking truths ranging from the principles of the new covenant, the rejection of Jesus, lessons from the book of Luke, the differences between the old and new covenant, and how it all shapes our Bible interpretation. We promise to take you through the Bible from a refreshingly unique perspective, examining how Psalm 23 isn't about confronting our enemies, but rather enjoying a lavish feast in their presence.

We also tackle the accusations of antinomianism that come with preaching grace correctly, leaning on the insights of Martin Lloyd-Jones. We encourage you to serve God not out of fear of punishment but out of love, underscoring how the cross of Jesus changed everything. Experience your faith in a new light as we delve into the Apostle Paul's defense of the gospel's integrity, the power of God's grace, and the boldness that accompanies knowing we have been made new and forgiven through Jesus.

As we navigate through the "Clash of the Covenants" series, let us learn, grow, and deepen our understanding of the covenants and our relationship with God.

00:00.120 --> 00:01.282 This is righteousness. 00:01.463 --> 00:04.829 It's a gift, and Jesus has given it to you. 00:05.370 --> 00:08.162 He has given to you his righteousness. 00:08.604 --> 00:12.216 He has imparted and imputed his righteousness to you. 00:12.517 --> 00:16.772 When God the Father looks at you, he sees the righteousness of Jesus on you. 00:17.073 --> 00:20.544 When you talk to God the Father, he hears you as though it's Jesus talking to him. 00:20.885 --> 00:22.950 So who's more righteous, you or Jesus? 00:24.033 --> 00:28.426 The same Welcome to the City Light Church podcast. 00:28.667 --> 00:34.968 Thanks for joining us today as we look into God's Word and discover the hope and truth that he has for us. 00:35.711 --> 00:41.126 If you want to connect with City Light Church, feel free to visit us at CityLightNYCcom. 00:41.447 --> 00:44.073 That's CityLightNYCcom. 00:44.794 --> 00:51.915 Pastor Boyan Jansik and his team believe that the power of the Holy Spirit is already working in our hearts and minds. 00:52.657 --> 01:02.430 As you listen to today's teaching, remember that you are deeply loved by God, that you are surrounded by his grace and that he has a real hope and a future for you. 01:06.560 --> 01:14.823 We're beginning a new series today Clash of the Covenants, and we're going to slow, marinate, slow cook. 01:16.887 --> 01:34.671 I did not know that moving to Long Island meant that I was obligated Every man I talk to, it seems that I'm under obligation to get a very expensive grill or a slow cooker, a smoker, I guess that's, and I'm thinking it's that time. 01:34.711 --> 01:40.813 You know, mid-40s suburban dad, you can go one of two ways. 01:40.933 --> 01:47.748 No, it's true, you can really become a World War II history buff, or you can really get into smoking, smoking your meats. 01:50.152 --> 01:58.756 So you'll see, that's what happens, and I've learned enough about World War II from my granddad. 01:58.957 --> 02:07.015 So I'm going the slow cooking variety and we're going to slow cook over the course of eight weeks. 02:07.035 --> 02:19.673 New covenant Christianity and new covenant realities, because, after all, we do live under the new covenant, so we should learn the principles of the new covenant, shouldn't we? 02:20.295 --> 02:29.745 How are we really going to experience the fullness of what Jesus has for us and experience true Christianity if we don't understand the covenant that we're operating under? 02:31.129 --> 02:40.909 And we're going to be going through Galatians, because Paul was addressing a problem, and the problem was the Galatian church mixing covenants. 02:41.450 --> 02:44.061 They were mixing the old covenant with the new. 02:44.602 --> 03:08.028 Interestingly enough, that wasn't just a first century phenomenon to this day, because the new covenant is so radical In fact Paul says it's hard to understand, he even calls it a mystery and it's just so mind blowing and it's so counterintuitive to everything, from how we were raised by our parents, how we were raised by society. 03:08.108 --> 03:09.693 The whole system we grew up in. 03:10.581 --> 03:24.687 It's counterintuitive to that so it doesn't really click unless we get enough word in us and then the Holy Spirit can work with that word and then he apocalyptos, he pulls back the curtain, he reveals the truth of grace and the truth of living under grace. 03:25.689 --> 03:41.049 So people are still mixing and the word of the Lord is stop mixing, stop taking a little bit of the old covenant, a little bit of the new, putting it together and coming up with your own covenant, which is how I believe the vast majority of the church lives. 03:42.154 --> 03:44.783 But we're going to live under the fullness of the new Amen. 03:46.327 --> 03:52.563 So we're going to begin Galatians and there's no better way to begin Galatians than by turning to the book of Luke. 03:52.964 --> 03:53.425 Amen. 03:53.886 --> 03:57.414 Let's go to the book of Luke, chapter 9, verse 51. 03:59.440 --> 04:07.684 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for him to be received up, that he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem. 04:07.704 --> 04:08.806 This is speaking of Jesus. 04:10.149 --> 04:16.874 And they sent messengers before his face and as they went they entered a village of the Samaritans to prepare for him. 04:18.359 --> 04:23.309 But they did not receive him because his face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 04:23.891 --> 04:25.534 So note that Jesus was rejected. 04:27.141 --> 04:28.908 He was rejected even before the cross. 04:29.350 --> 04:39.471 Sometimes the gospels read like a highlight reel, from miracle to miracle to miracle, but if you just look a little bit deeper you'll see that salt and pepper throughout the highlight reel is a lot of rejection. 04:40.856 --> 04:42.581 So don't feel bad if ever you're rejected. 04:44.105 --> 04:45.909 He said the servant is not above his master. 04:45.969 --> 04:47.593 They hated me, they'll hate you. 04:49.520 --> 04:53.171 So he gets rejected by the Samaritans because he was on his way to Jerusalem. 04:54.520 --> 05:04.174 And when his disciples, james and John, saw this, they said Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did? 05:04.756 --> 05:07.403 Lol, right, wow, wow. 05:07.503 --> 05:09.508 What an extreme thought to have. 05:10.230 --> 05:12.275 But these were old covenant people. 05:13.317 --> 05:19.511 All they knew was the old covenant and, by the way, this is how God dealt with sin under the old covenant. 05:20.012 --> 05:25.238 When you were judged, it wasn't a slap on the wrist, it was the ground splitting open and swallowing you up. 05:25.559 --> 05:28.792 It was fire from heaven, it was pestilence, it was a plague. 05:29.154 --> 05:31.802 There was one verdict guilty, and the punishment was death. 05:33.106 --> 05:34.649 The wages of sin is death. 05:35.070 --> 05:43.921 That's the old covenant and they're just thinking and talking in line with what they've read and with what they've experienced living under the old covenant. 05:44.703 --> 05:45.785 Here's what Jesus says. 05:46.947 --> 05:53.426 But he turned and rebuked them and said you do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 05:54.990 --> 05:57.356 You don't know that I'm bringing in a new spirit. 05:58.098 --> 05:59.621 I'm bringing in a new covenant. 06:00.363 --> 06:10.465 I'm bringing in a new dispensation, a different set of principles that this whole world, the entirety of the world, will be under. 06:11.247 --> 06:12.329 You're of a different spirit. 06:12.890 --> 06:14.634 You're of an old covenant spirit. 06:16.780 --> 06:22.204 You know where else you'll see Jesus saying something similar with the woman at the well who happened to be a Samaritan. 06:23.348 --> 06:30.331 They were upset with him, with Jesus here, because he was going to Jerusalem and they didn't want to go to Jerusalem. 06:30.592 --> 06:33.804 The woman at the well says which mountain should we worship at? 06:33.844 --> 06:37.942 The Jews say worship at this mountain, and she was talking about Sinai, right at Jerusalem. 06:39.405 --> 06:40.728 But we worship at this mountain. 06:40.829 --> 06:41.570 So which one is it? 06:41.691 --> 06:43.843 See, she's thinking all physical, all natural. 06:43.883 --> 06:44.766 Where should we worship? 06:44.786 --> 06:45.267 Which mountain? 06:45.528 --> 06:53.909 And he goes listen, dear, the day is coming, you'll neither worship at this mountain or that mountain, but the true worshipers will worship me in spirit and in truth. 06:53.969 --> 07:01.155 What's he saying Under the new covenant, empowered by the Holy Spirit, in spirit and in truth. 07:01.876 --> 07:20.471 So, before we begin with Galatians, I'm just going to ask Pastor James to come up and show you what I believe is one of the most important pages in the entire Bible, something that I really want you to read over and over again and really let this sink down deep into your spirit. 07:21.053 --> 07:23.039 These pages are hidden in the Bible. 07:23.079 --> 07:26.727 Many of you have never taken a good long look and ponder the significance of them. 07:28.390 --> 07:41.908 Right at the end of Malachi excuse me for the Italian Americans, malachi Sandwiched in between the last page of Malachi and the first page of Matthew, is this blank page. 07:43.551 --> 07:45.675 You ever wonder what's happening here. 07:46.320 --> 07:47.402 There is a change. 07:48.124 --> 07:53.440 We're moving from old covenant to new covenant and you cannot mix the two together. 07:53.734 --> 07:57.304 Pick one, pick one and live in that one. 07:57.597 --> 08:03.069 Now, before you make your choice, let me explain the difference between the covenants. 08:03.850 --> 08:12.772 Under the old covenant, which I said earlier was a dispensation Don't get lost in a fancy theological term, a dispensation simply means a system of order. 08:13.260 --> 08:15.910 Picture a big umbrella over all of humanity. 08:16.432 --> 08:21.948 And this is how, underneath that umbrella, under that particular dispensation, these are the principles. 08:22.288 --> 08:36.871 This is how God will relate to man Under the old covenant umbrella, under the old covenant system of order, under the old covenant dispensation, man endeavored to get approval from God. 08:37.592 --> 08:49.544 Man endeavored to be declared righteous based on their own self effort, their own self discipline, their own law, keeping their own good behavior Notice. 08:49.644 --> 08:52.250 I said man endeavored to be made righteous. 08:52.450 --> 08:55.563 Man was never made righteous Impossible. 08:56.245 --> 08:58.653 Couldn't be made righteous through his own self effort. 08:59.135 --> 08:59.416 Why? 08:59.917 --> 09:05.470 Because when you break the law in just one part, you're guilty of breaking the entirety of the law. 09:06.312 --> 09:09.064 There is no A minus on the test. 09:10.688 --> 09:12.392 You either get an A or an F. 09:14.016 --> 09:16.201 And if you just mess up once what a terrible burden. 09:16.842 --> 09:19.969 You mess up once, you're guilty of breaking the entirety of the law. 09:22.053 --> 09:26.583 You're a sinner Under the new covenant. 09:27.204 --> 09:29.289 That's another dispensation, another umbrella. 09:30.251 --> 09:52.070 Under the new covenant, you're declared righteous, which means you have right standing with God, not based on your self effort, not based on your good behavior, not based on you trying to cross every T and dot every I, but it's all based not on what you do, but on what Jesus has already done for you. 09:52.971 --> 09:55.155 Hallelujah, amen. 09:55.960 --> 10:01.332 And under the new covenant, jesus kept the entirety of the law, fully and perfectly. 10:01.752 --> 10:03.382 He got an A plus on the test. 10:04.044 --> 10:16.704 And when you say, jesus, I receive you to be my Lord and my savior, he takes your name, crosses his out, erases it on that A plus paper, puts your name in and says go ahead, hand this in to your parents. 10:17.305 --> 10:18.608 Hand, show this to your father. 10:20.051 --> 10:21.014 He'll be real proud. 10:22.021 --> 10:27.498 He did all the work, kept the law perfectly and then passed the benefit over to you. 10:27.819 --> 10:38.029 If you'll receive it by faith and only look to him and when you only look to him, you cannot add anything to his already finished work it's Jesus plus. 10:38.190 --> 10:39.994 Nothing equals everything. 10:41.197 --> 10:46.728 Religion then comes in and says well, jesus plus I mean we got to get some stuff out of you. 10:46.808 --> 10:54.268 So Jesus plus regular church attendance, jesus plus getting baptized, jesus plus tithing. 10:54.608 --> 11:00.189 No, all those things are good things, but they don't help as far as your salvation is concerned. 11:00.630 --> 11:10.879 Your salvation is free, and when you really understand the significance of your salvation, nobody has to wag a finger at you telling you what you need to do. 11:10.979 --> 11:13.420 You, from the inside out, are empowered. 11:13.520 --> 11:19.856 It's not just that you want to live pleasing to the Lord, but now you're empowered to live pleasing to the Lord. 11:20.337 --> 11:20.959 See the law. 11:20.980 --> 11:24.954 It places a demand on people touch not, taste not, you cannot. 11:25.356 --> 11:27.845 But you never get the power to fulfill the obligation of the law. 11:28.408 --> 11:31.963 So you're always frustrated, which is why people want to stay away from church. 11:32.184 --> 11:32.766 I don't blame them. 11:33.027 --> 11:35.036 They think it's an epicenter of frustration. 11:35.458 --> 11:38.449 I'm just going to be told a bunch of things that I can't do. 11:38.890 --> 11:40.817 I can fulfill and frankly I don't want to. 11:41.258 --> 11:47.916 So peace out, I'm out of there, when real new covenant Christianity is the exact opposite. 11:48.878 --> 11:52.626 So let's just begin Galatians by noting there is a difference between the covenants. 11:52.727 --> 11:53.107 Why? 11:54.430 --> 11:57.503 Because the cross of Jesus changed everything. 11:58.065 --> 12:00.691 Jesus changed everything. 12:01.594 --> 12:10.637 John the Baptist said behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, that whole sin problem that was in the world. 12:11.098 --> 12:26.090 Jesus on the cross took it away and it's because of his blood that we could live under a covenant, under a dispensation, not of the law but of grace, amen. 12:26.571 --> 12:29.922 Let's begin in Galatians, chapter one, martin Luther. 12:30.784 --> 12:35.554 He used to call Galatians by the name of his wife because he said I'm married to it. 12:37.501 --> 12:37.862 I wouldn't. 12:38.504 --> 12:44.140 I mean it's cool, move on, martin Luther. 12:44.160 --> 12:50.654 But, han, no other human or epistle or entity shall be called by thy name. 12:52.538 --> 12:59.917 But just showing how much it meant to him, it's been called the declaration of independence of Christian liberty. 13:01.039 --> 13:19.246 So let's begin in Galatians, chapter one, and we're going to go verse by verse, smashing the idols of legalism, the idols of pride, and receiving the free gift of righteousness. 13:20.670 --> 13:31.474 Paul, an apostle, not for men or through man, but through Jesus Christ and God, the Father, who raised him from the dead, and all the brethren who are with me, to the churches of Galatia. 13:32.717 --> 13:36.197 Grace, he outlines with that one word. 13:36.330 --> 13:52.700 The theme of the entire epistle is gonna be grace, grace to you and peace from God, the Father and our Lord, jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age. 13:53.450 --> 13:58.595 Note that you're delivered from the power of darkness, not the presence of darkness. 14:00.850 --> 14:04.996 You're delivered out of the power of this evil age, but you're still living in an evil age. 14:06.550 --> 14:11.057 Psalm 23, he prepares a table before you in the presence of your enemies. 14:11.890 --> 14:14.253 You're gonna be feasting, but not too far. 14:14.353 --> 14:27.472 Is the enemies of God looking on, by the way, when the Psalms, psalms 23, says when Psalms 23 says he prepares a table before you in the presence of my enemies. 14:27.513 --> 14:30.477 This is where it's good to know the difference between the old and new covenant. 14:31.090 --> 14:37.234 Under the old, david is writing it, he's literally talking about other military people who were after his life. 14:38.210 --> 14:43.599 I mean, it could mean that and it can still mean that, but everything under the old covenant was physical. 14:43.730 --> 14:45.176 Under the new covenant and spiritual. 14:45.290 --> 14:57.516 So when you read Psalm 23, don't think about your coworker, who you think is your enemy, and you're praying oh God, cause me to eat lavishly and they'll just watch muah. 14:58.190 --> 15:08.995 No, for us, under the new covenant, it's talking about the enemies of God, demonic spirits, and yes, they can operate through people, but we're not trying to stick it to somebody or go into war with people. 15:09.450 --> 15:14.418 We're eating lavishly, but the demonic spirits are still looking on because it's not fully their time yet. 15:15.530 --> 15:24.437 Shadrach, meshach and Abednego God didn't deliver them from the furnace, he delivered them from the fire in the furnace. 15:25.130 --> 15:28.296 You're delivered from the power of your enemies, but not from the presence of your enemies. 15:28.850 --> 15:34.357 Incidentally, this is why it's so important for us to go through this series and really understand the difference of the covenants. 15:36.194 --> 15:43.638 Another example is and there's many, many scriptures like this in the Old Testament here's one the Lord, god, is a Son and shield. 15:44.290 --> 15:45.716 The Lord will give grace and glory. 15:46.570 --> 15:50.134 No good thing will he withhold from those who walk up. 15:50.175 --> 15:50.476 Rightly. 15:51.210 --> 15:52.255 Phenomenal verse, right. 15:53.870 --> 15:54.995 I have a problem with it, though. 15:55.610 --> 16:03.178 If I don't understand grace, I'm gonna see that the fulfillment of that verse is conditional on me walking up rightly. 16:04.150 --> 16:07.918 So I really need a breakthrough, I need the Lord, and I find this beautiful verse so generous. 16:08.010 --> 16:10.298 The Lord will give grace and glory. 16:12.870 --> 16:16.573 By the way, when it says glory in that verse, what do you think of? 16:20.791 --> 16:22.176 Somebody there shouted money. 16:28.630 --> 16:33.800 He had the hoodie on and everything and then, like a Jedi movie, he removes the hoodie. 16:35.510 --> 16:36.234 That was me. 16:38.310 --> 16:39.013 He shouted money. 16:40.010 --> 16:43.695 Can you believe that we have such carnal Christians at City Light Church? 16:45.090 --> 16:46.233 So why is it always about? 16:46.895 --> 16:47.536 It's about money. 16:49.180 --> 16:59.473 He's right, just like he was, about the type of wood in Noah's Ark and corrected me and called it the word glory. 16:59.513 --> 17:01.892 We often mean like the glories of God, and what do you think of? 17:01.932 --> 17:11.001 Like golden streams and dust, and it can mean the anointing, but the first use of the word glory was heavy laden. 17:11.850 --> 17:18.821 Abraham had so much stuff that he put the cabode, the heaviness of his treasures, on the beast of burden. 17:20.050 --> 17:24.698 And many times that word glory actually means material provision and sustenance. 17:25.370 --> 17:27.277 The Lord will give grace and glory. 17:27.951 --> 17:30.835 No good thing will he withhold from those who walk up rightly. 17:31.430 --> 17:35.917 And now I read that and I immediately realized oh, that's based on my behavior. 17:36.510 --> 17:37.032 I have to be well. 17:37.052 --> 17:37.633 What does that mean? 17:37.734 --> 17:39.479 Walk up rightly, right? 17:40.070 --> 17:49.917 How are you really gonna have confidence and claim that verse as your own when there's that little part in the end those who walk up rightly, well, how up rightly? 17:50.190 --> 17:52.898 I mean, if I compare myself to Hitler, I walk up rightly. 17:54.010 --> 17:57.054 If I compare myself to those carnal Christians, I know I walk up rightly. 17:57.790 --> 18:01.120 But if I compare myself to Jesus, I'm not walking up rightly. 18:01.410 --> 18:02.435 So does that mean I miss it? 18:02.570 --> 18:03.434 Can I still claim it? 18:04.030 --> 18:09.981 Well, I've been pretty good this week, but I didn't read the Bible like I think I should. 18:10.190 --> 18:11.294 How much is enough anyway? 18:11.675 --> 18:12.378 Did I pray enough? 18:12.690 --> 18:13.454 Did I witness enough? 18:13.950 --> 18:17.756 And all these insecurities come in and you're robbed of the promise. 18:17.816 --> 18:18.097 Right? 18:18.730 --> 18:20.877 That's how it was under the old covenant. 18:21.970 --> 18:25.856 If you read that and you don't understand the power of the blood of Jesus and you go. 18:26.930 --> 18:27.713 Well, that's me. 18:28.475 --> 18:30.613 I walk up rightly, cause I'm all that. 18:30.914 --> 18:31.617 You just missed it. 18:32.950 --> 18:37.074 All those verses cause you to look out of yourself and look to a savior. 18:37.870 --> 18:46.919 So under the new covenant, you have been made upright, you have been declared righteous, you have right, standing with God. 18:47.510 --> 19:07.154 So whenever you read throughout the Old Testament, these conditional promises there's so many promises to the righteous, to the one who walks up rightly that's not for us to say, oh well, this week I can't claim that it's been a bad week, and I really exploded on that person on the LIE, and I gesticulated to them and sign language, if you know what I mean. 19:07.670 --> 19:08.452 And so I really. 19:10.959 --> 19:19.434 No, I didn't do that, I'm just giving examples here, just like three people going, mm-hmm, this isn't confession therapy time for me, I'm just giving examples. 19:20.374 --> 19:22.487 I'm just giving examples. 19:22.507 --> 19:22.970 You can't do that. 19:23.050 --> 19:29.894 But you read that and you say, god, I don't walk up rightly, in and of myself I lack, but because of you, jesus, you have made me righteous. 19:30.710 --> 19:35.435 You have forever cemented me in the upright before God position. 19:36.330 --> 19:41.335 All my sins, all your sins, past, present and future have been taken out of the way. 19:41.690 --> 19:47.752 Now guess what you have Confidence, and that's a major theme of grace Boldness. 19:48.495 --> 19:52.879 That's why the Bible says the righteous are as bold as a lion. 19:54.190 --> 20:00.819 Now, if you're looking at yourself, you're not gonna be too bold unless you're really given over to pride. 20:01.650 --> 20:08.598 And there are some people that are so blinded all they can see is the good things in themselves and the bad in everyone else, and they think that in and of themselves they're righteous. 20:08.690 --> 20:09.011 They're not. 20:10.090 --> 20:12.738 Jesus showed up, he'd expose that in a second. 20:13.810 --> 20:17.895 But no, we're to not look at ourselves, we look to Jesus, and that's how the promise is fulfilled. 20:18.477 --> 20:22.556 Hallelujah, according to the will of our God and Father. 20:22.757 --> 20:27.958 Verse five to whom be glory forever and ever. 20:28.500 --> 20:28.801 Amen. 20:30.230 --> 20:37.241 Verse six he says I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him. 20:41.670 --> 20:44.932 What was happening in this Galatian church Cause right now? 20:45.033 --> 20:48.113 This is Paul and he's not happy, he's upset. 20:48.153 --> 20:50.274 You know what's missing In the first five verses? 20:50.334 --> 20:50.675 We're ready. 20:50.695 --> 20:59.938 In verse six, we're missing charismatic, socially correct Paul who comes in and when he writes the letter, all the other letters he first praises them. 21:00.430 --> 21:01.796 He tells them how good they're doing. 21:02.090 --> 21:03.997 You can feel his affection for them. 21:04.510 --> 21:04.791 He doesn't. 21:04.811 --> 21:06.496 He skips all that and he's upset. 21:07.710 --> 21:08.353 He's upset, he's going. 21:08.473 --> 21:12.475 You're turning, not from a doctrine, not from a teaching, you're turning away from him. 21:12.890 --> 21:14.556 So what was happening to the Galatians? 21:15.250 --> 21:18.660 Well, this group called the Judaizers had snuck in. 21:19.390 --> 21:29.081 Imagine it's the first century, the apostle Paul is turning the whole world upside down with the gospel and this Aryan Galatia got saved. 21:29.570 --> 21:31.197 And then Paul goes on another missionary journey. 21:31.510 --> 21:41.195 While Paul is gone, judaizers snuck in, and you know what their message was it's good that you believe in Jesus as the Messiah, as the Son of God we do too. 21:41.870 --> 21:46.018 But in order for you to be saved, you have to keep the entirety of the Levitical Law. 21:46.410 --> 21:51.855 In fact, the men have to be circumcised, because they were all not Jewish people who became Christian, the men. 21:52.150 --> 21:53.696 So they're putting them back under the law. 21:53.736 --> 21:54.418 What are they doing? 21:54.770 --> 21:56.496 They're mixing the covenants. 21:59.050 --> 22:05.355 And Paul says you're not just turning away from a teaching, you're turning away from Jesus. 22:06.510 --> 22:10.996 The moment you mix covenants, you're turning away from Jesus. 22:11.177 --> 22:11.437 Why? 22:11.970 --> 22:13.837 Because Jesus is grace. 22:14.550 --> 22:20.298 Grace is not a doctrine, it's not a teaching, it's the very person of Jesus. 22:22.930 --> 22:31.581 The Bible says that the law it was given, it came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 22:33.030 --> 22:34.857 And under the old covenant, dispensation. 22:35.430 --> 22:42.295 You had to work to be approved unto God under the new covenant, dispensation, or the new covenant of His grace. 22:43.150 --> 22:48.837 Jesus did all the work and transferred the benefit over to you. 22:51.850 --> 22:59.435 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you, in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel. 22:59.950 --> 23:04.216 Hey, let me just say this Before you think wow, this sounds like a first century problem. 23:04.731 --> 23:06.637 And why is this so important to pastor? 23:07.750 --> 23:20.056 Because I don't really see the likelihood of a group of Judaizers coming in to city lights, signing up for our life groups and slowly because it says they crept in unawares slowly trying to bring mixture. 23:20.470 --> 23:23.299 No, we don't have Judaizers as a group of people today. 23:23.630 --> 23:26.779 But you have bad teachers, bad preachers. 23:27.290 --> 23:28.876 You have your own voice. 23:29.270 --> 23:37.277 You have Hasatan, satan, the accuser of the brethren, and what he's doing in your life over time is trying to get you to mix the covenants. 23:37.690 --> 23:48.736 Because the moment you mix the covenants, you turn away from Him who called you in the grace of Christ and the power of the new covenant is robbed from you, even if you mix a little bit. 23:50.210 --> 23:52.438 The name of this series is Clash of the Covenants. 23:52.570 --> 23:59.959 I could add another title no Mixture, I want 100% pure new covenant grace. 24:00.370 --> 24:06.209 I don't need it sprinkled with a bit of the law, amen, amen. 24:06.970 --> 24:24.052 And one of the biggest culprits of sprinkling a little bit of the law onto grace are pastors, because they don't trust the Holy Spirit in people, they don't trust the word of God, they don't trust the very strength of the new covenant to actually keep people doing what they're supposed to be doing. 24:25.270 --> 24:34.915 So they say things like if you don't come every Sunday, you might be cursed, you might get punished All these manipulative tactics. 24:35.256 --> 24:37.095 If you sin, god will punish you. 24:38.170 --> 24:50.111 If you don't tithe, god will punish you, as though you were living under the old covenant. 24:50.180 --> 24:52.007 But the cross of Jesus changed everything. 24:54.360 --> 25:01.666 If God has already thoroughly punished your sin in the person of Jesus on the cross, then how much more punishment is left for you? 25:04.860 --> 25:04.940 This? 25:04.960 --> 25:05.724 is wild isn't it? 25:07.840 --> 25:17.507 Now, when you start preaching grace as it's meant to be preached, obviously some thoughts are gonna come up and they're gonna go something like does that mean I can just do whatever I want? 25:20.122 --> 25:29.605 Listen, if you're serving God and abstaining from sin because you're trying to avoid the threat of retribution or punishment, you're doing Christianity wrong. 25:30.020 --> 25:31.506 And, by the way, that can't last forever. 25:32.100 --> 25:38.265 You'll hold on tight for a little bit, maybe a few weeks, maybe a few months, maybe you'll even make it for years. 25:38.380 --> 25:39.545 I know some people that made it for years. 25:39.660 --> 25:42.265 They're no fun to be around, they're off. 25:42.305 --> 25:51.508 They're off Because then you're either full of pride or you're upset because you're seeing other people get blessed but they're not as religious and bound up as you. 25:51.580 --> 25:58.007 And then the big brother syndrome comes up and you're upset and you try to get them to do what you're doing to score points with God. 25:58.960 --> 26:00.207 You went to an R-rated movie. 26:00.409 --> 26:02.018 I haven't since 1982. 26:03.925 --> 26:05.570 And all these legalistic things. 26:07.760 --> 26:08.563 Listen, listen. 26:08.744 --> 26:11.864 Martin Lloyd-Jones, phenomenal, phenomenal. 26:12.446 --> 26:18.167 Man of God, teacher of the word, was at Westminster Chapel in the 50s. 26:18.640 --> 26:20.085 Great revelation came through him. 26:20.145 --> 26:30.850 He said this you're not preaching grace correctly until people accuse you of antinomianism, which is a total disregard for God's moral law. 26:32.360 --> 26:36.506 I'm not preaching disregard for God's moral law, but some people should accuse me of it. 26:37.320 --> 26:39.527 You know why they accused Paul of that. 26:41.060 --> 26:47.224 And whenever you preach grace, people who don't understand the heart of the new covenant will accuse you of doing just that. 26:47.680 --> 26:50.528 The heart of the new covenant is so much better than the old. 26:51.720 --> 26:55.408 Under the old, you didn't sin, or you didn't sin to avoid punishment. 26:55.720 --> 27:09.551 Under the new, it's because of your love of God, not because you're trying to avoid punishment, and love will carry you through your entire life and you're empowered by the Holy Spirit. 27:10.880 --> 27:20.171 The law is like a giant sign that says keep off the grass, but the new covenant gives you a love for the sidewalk, hallelujah. 27:21.760 --> 27:27.304 And if you're stuck in some sin pattern right now, I'll tell you what your solution isn't trying much harder. 27:28.440 --> 27:33.203 I'll tell you what your solution definitely isn't me wagging my index finger and saying you gotta do it holy. 27:34.880 --> 27:38.243 You gotta do it right, be better. 27:39.240 --> 27:41.948 This is why so many pastors first they start with a lie. 27:42.880 --> 27:48.967 Most pastors I shouldn't say most, but a lot Too many are angry, they're bitter. 27:50.030 --> 27:58.205 They don't start off that way, but the moment they approach their fifties they just have, like the old man with the get off my lawn syndrome Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. 27:59.940 --> 28:01.686 Because they put everybody else under the law. 28:01.746 --> 28:09.624 They're under the law, they're being crushed by the law, wagging their fingers. 28:09.804 --> 28:16.107 No, I'm not gonna change your behavior by just messing with you and telling you, because I could be saying stop sinning. 28:16.408 --> 28:17.090 What are you doing? 28:17.300 --> 28:18.842 You're wrecking your life and you're going. 28:19.063 --> 28:20.508 I know well, stop it. 28:20.680 --> 28:24.470 And your response is I can't how. 28:26.100 --> 28:43.267 But when I say look to Jesus, dive into the cross, dive into His substitutionary death, meditate on the blood, how the blood has removed your sin, meditate on new creation realities, most people think when they're born again. 28:43.400 --> 28:48.080 That's like the Lord taking an old pig, putting it in a dress and slapping some makeup on it, going. 28:48.101 --> 28:48.724 Isn't she pretty? 28:50.140 --> 28:51.023 That's religion. 28:51.344 --> 28:52.368 Religion does that. 28:53.060 --> 28:58.506 Takes an old pig, lipstick, fake lashes, puts a nice dress and goes no, it's still an oinker. 29:01.140 --> 29:13.111 God completely put a brand new spirit in you, a species of being that never existed before, your sinless, recreated in the image of Jesus. 29:15.880 --> 29:20.108 And as you meditate on this and this can be a process this can take time. 29:21.220 --> 29:26.329 When you come up out of the world or through life, you've opened some windows and doors to the enemy. 29:26.480 --> 29:27.905 Some sins will put their hook in you. 29:29.120 --> 29:30.325 How does that hook get removed? 29:31.620 --> 29:33.285 Some sins it's quick. 29:33.566 --> 29:43.609 Other sins take time, but the solution is always the same it's the person of Jesus and what he did for you at the cross, and it's you living under the new covenant. 29:43.960 --> 29:47.244 That means you're not trusting in yourself, you're trusting in Him. 29:49.060 --> 29:59.342 You'll notice, under the to fulfill the law, there's a lot of those hyphenated sins Self effort, self discipline, self self, self dash, self dash. 30:00.104 --> 30:06.185 The problem is is that it's always on us and we have a partner role to play. 30:07.180 --> 30:10.309 The problem is also is that we don't know how to play it. 30:10.940 --> 30:12.707 We always fall on our face and come up short. 30:13.260 --> 30:16.370 Under the new covenant, jesus has taken the weak link out of the way. 30:16.760 --> 30:23.624 You know what the weak link was Us, and now he's in our place, forever holding the new covenant together on our behalf. 30:24.005 --> 30:28.771 Woo, this is why the gospel is called Good News. 30:29.293 --> 30:32.225 Yeah, and can you believe it? 30:32.780 --> 30:34.186 They were turning away from that. 30:34.440 --> 30:35.465 Yes, I can believe it. 30:35.520 --> 30:37.127 People turn away from it every day. 30:37.540 --> 30:46.926 Today, we're sick no, really the way we were raised, the way society taught us, we have this sickness called pride. 30:47.980 --> 30:53.687 Grace is so offensive because it messes your pride up, because you don't get to say I hope to save you're out. 30:54.480 --> 30:58.084 You don't get to boast and brag about any contribution to your salvation. 30:58.740 --> 31:08.088 You were desperate, you were shipwrecked, you were marooned on an island, you had no food, you had no covering, you were naked and Jesus came and rescued you. 31:08.360 --> 31:19.808 You had nothing to do with it, and so it's offensive because it strips you of your pride and it just causes you to fall to your knees and go thank you, yeah, thank you. 31:20.341 --> 31:25.672 You're my savior, you saved me off that island, hallelujah. 31:25.900 --> 31:33.809 So he's saying I'm marvel that you were turning away so soon from him, who called you, in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another. 31:35.680 --> 31:38.544 He's using this language, specifically that word, for another. 31:39.320 --> 31:51.181 In the Greek it means another, of the same kind, like if I said I was in my kitchen and I was eating a honey crisp apple and I liked it so much I went and got another, another. 31:51.222 --> 31:52.401 What Another? 31:52.501 --> 31:54.307 Apple of the same kind, another honey crisp. 31:55.280 --> 32:10.556 Paul is saying this gospel of mixture, it's not even another, it's a different gospel, it's completely different, it's a Clone and it's a perversion which is not another. 32:10.897 --> 32:15.265 But there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 32:16.571 --> 32:19.819 So he calls mixing the covenants a perversion. 32:20.340 --> 32:21.122 What's a perversion? 32:21.170 --> 32:24.210 We usually think of it in it with a sexual connotation, like that pervert. 32:28.097 --> 32:29.079 The word pervert? 32:29.700 --> 32:36.397 It means to distort that's the original meaning, like a fun house mirror that's distorted. 32:37.981 --> 32:49.672 You ever go, you're looking at the fun house mirror and your head is four feet wide and your legs are two inches thick and you're like that kind of sort of I guess I can see me in it, but the image is all distorted. 32:50.374 --> 32:54.521 Any teaching that mixes the covenants is a fun house mirror gospel. 32:54.942 --> 32:57.455 It's a distorted gospel, it's a perverted gospel. 33:01.231 --> 33:21.198 It's funny to see the mood shift because on the one side I declare the goodness of Jesus and Freedom from the law and then on the other side I'm using I'm just quoting Paul, and every time I quote Paul because he's using strong words, perverted and he's just and that's what I want you to know that that the apostle Paul. 33:21.258 --> 33:27.721 You can hear the emotion, the pathos Depleting in his voice and this is the most upset you'll ever see him in entire New Testament. 33:28.191 --> 33:30.920 That's how much by the Holy Spirit he hates mixture. 33:32.431 --> 33:58.101 He even corrected a problem in the Corinthian church of a stepson sleeping with his father's new wife, which Strangely always brought me comfort in a weird way reading that as a pastor in New York City, because we experience all sort of crazy things and it's nice to be reminded that Paul dealt with crazy Jerry Springer stuff back in the first century in the Middle East. 33:59.132 --> 34:00.236 That was always crazy. 34:02.872 --> 34:03.755 So Paul made it through. 34:03.775 --> 34:04.939 I'm gonna be alright, amen. 34:06.632 --> 34:09.004 He planted churches and churches thrive. 34:09.024 --> 34:14.952 We're gonna be alright, even though, oh yeah, the Montel show was right there in the background happening. 34:16.131 --> 34:17.798 Does anybody even know what I'm talking about? 34:22.012 --> 34:24.384 I'm looking at the age in here and I'm like you know what I'm doing. 34:24.525 --> 34:24.665 Act. 34:24.846 --> 34:25.610 You know what I'm talking about? 34:34.042 --> 34:36.726 Hallelujah, let's go to verse eight. 34:40.532 --> 34:52.003 My point was I got off on 90s daytime TV, but my point is that you see the Apostle Paul most upset Even when he corrected that fella in Corinthians. 34:52.064 --> 34:55.375 You don't see him this upset, he gets excommunicated. 34:55.435 --> 34:59.082 And then the next letter, paul is like come on in, you've repented, come in. 34:59.363 --> 35:05.969 But he is viciously defending the integrity of the gospel when he says no mixture. 35:05.989 --> 35:13.470 And that's why the mood here is all over the place, because Paul is upset, but he's not upset at what most people think he would get upset at. 35:14.531 --> 35:17.496 He's upset that there's a distortion of the gospel which he knows. 35:17.596 --> 35:20.921 If they live under a distorted gospel, the people will be robbed. 35:23.971 --> 35:27.761 Listen, if ever you're feeling condemned, you're living under a distorted gospel. 35:28.471 --> 35:31.138 If you're feeling guilty, you're living under a distorted gospel. 35:31.939 --> 35:33.563 Don't think this is a Galatians problem. 35:33.590 --> 35:34.716 This is a now problem. 35:35.178 --> 35:50.994 If ever you feel like you can't at any time Run to father God and be in his embrace and be in his presence and he's not counting your sin against you and there's nothing but love from him towards you, you're living under a perverted, distorted, mixture gospel. 35:53.152 --> 35:56.922 If ever you stay away from praying because you think God is upset with you, perverted gospel. 35:59.715 --> 36:04.122 If ever you don't have spiritual boldness and confidence, perverted gospel. 36:04.482 --> 36:05.965 Which spiritual boldness? 36:09.071 --> 36:10.618 That's something that's lacking in the church. 36:12.251 --> 36:12.992 Why is it lacking? 36:13.033 --> 36:14.135 Because they have the opposite. 36:14.155 --> 36:28.422 They have a spiritual inferiority complex who always feel like they can't get too close to God when in reality they're seated in heavenly places in Christ People, even when they pray these Mickey Mouse prayers, not even from their chest, from their throat. 36:32.391 --> 36:37.458 Stop it, put some bass in your voice. 36:39.951 --> 36:42.680 Put some know who you are in Jesus. 36:43.412 --> 36:47.030 Why are you talking to the father God like he's this giant and yours, please? 36:47.332 --> 36:48.499 I just want to come in real quick. 36:48.761 --> 36:50.130 Please don't crush me, don't hurt me. 36:50.431 --> 36:51.093 I just want to ask. 36:51.353 --> 36:54.682 I need a little money to make it to the end of the week, hopefully if you'd be so merciful. 36:55.551 --> 36:58.079 No, come boldly to the throne of grace. 36:58.200 --> 37:08.582 Amen, you're forgiven, you're made new, and that's why the enemy loves getting mixture in there, because it robs you of that essential boldness. 37:10.191 --> 37:10.954 Both Christians. 37:11.416 --> 37:18.890 They plant churches, they expand the kingdom, they win souls, they receive the promises of God. 37:20.516 --> 37:26.135 And, by the way, you can ask my wife when I am bold. 37:26.777 --> 37:31.010 But in order to be bold, I never, ever think of my accomplishments. 37:32.012 --> 37:37.532 I don't psych myself up on Sunday morning and say, alright, bo, you got this, you got. 37:37.773 --> 37:38.496 I mean, you have done. 37:38.797 --> 37:39.499 The Lord threw you. 37:40.202 --> 37:46.041 I think of me in my history and I just like it's under the blood, I have nothing. 37:46.081 --> 37:48.890 I don't psych myself up in order to be bold. 37:49.010 --> 37:51.916 I think of only one thing Jesus on the cross and what that affords me. 37:52.117 --> 37:52.598 That's it. 37:53.440 --> 37:55.644 And out of that comes a roaring lion. 37:56.831 --> 37:59.917 If I look at myself for more than one second, I'll cry. 37:59.937 --> 38:01.901 You see me hiding, crying underneath the chairs. 38:02.582 --> 38:07.715 If I look at me too long, it's all through him. 38:08.612 --> 38:24.137 But Even if we verse 8, but even if we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel To you than we have preached to you, let him be anathema, a cursed. 38:24.538 --> 38:28.505 So once again, listen to how seriously Paul is dealing with this problem. 38:30.210 --> 38:33.240 Mixture people who preach mixture, he says. 38:33.280 --> 38:34.083 Let him be cut off. 38:34.564 --> 38:36.330 Get them out of the church. 38:37.273 --> 38:38.979 They are gospel pervertors. 38:41.131 --> 38:48.170 Hallelujah, I wish we can have some Pauline voices rise up today to speak to ministers who may mix the gospel in this way. 38:49.132 --> 38:53.323 I'm called to teach you not to correct other ministers, but I'd love a true apostle to rise up. 38:54.371 --> 39:03.430 Anyway, as we have said before, so now I say again if anyone preaches any other gospel so he's reiterating it twice let them be a cursed. 39:05.574 --> 39:10.201 If anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be a cursed. 39:10.261 --> 39:14.916 For do I now persuade men or God, or do I seek to please men? 39:15.056 --> 39:15.898 He's saying who am I? 39:16.039 --> 39:17.002 Who's my target here? 39:17.832 --> 39:18.817 My target is God. 39:19.159 --> 39:21.009 He's saying I preach for an audience of one. 39:21.029 --> 39:25.460 I Write these epistles, empowered by the Holy Spirit, for an audience of one. 39:25.842 --> 39:30.055 Everything we do, we shouldn't do with the idea of what will people think, but what will God think? 39:30.931 --> 39:31.432 We're trying it. 39:31.452 --> 39:32.956 When I preach, it's not what. 39:33.156 --> 39:34.058 How do the people feel? 39:34.118 --> 39:40.760 I mean, I wonder afterwards, but Is God, when on the ride home, god that I say everything you want it said? 39:41.020 --> 39:42.363 Is this message pleasing to you? 39:42.830 --> 39:44.236 Preaching for an audience of one? 39:46.832 --> 39:50.750 For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bond servant of Christ. 39:50.911 --> 40:03.424 He's saying if I was not preaching for God, if I was preaching to please you, well then I wouldn't be in chains, they wouldn't have arrested me, I'd be one of the ear ticklers, ear tickling ministries international. 40:07.271 --> 40:11.082 But he said, no, I preach the truth, and that sometimes comes with consequences. 40:15.811 --> 40:21.976 Let's uh, let's look at some compare and contrasts, shall we, between the old and new covenant. 40:22.016 --> 40:23.339 Let's look at those slides, please. 40:27.951 --> 40:31.983 Under the Old Testament, god, he demands righteousness. 40:33.031 --> 40:41.224 Under the New Testament, god imparts righteousness through the completed work of Jesus. 40:41.873 --> 40:48.198 So Old Covenant, god shows you the standard Righteousness, but you have no power to fulfill that standard. 40:48.779 --> 40:53.217 This is so beautiful under the new covenant and this is the gift that Jesus offers everyone. 40:53.678 --> 41:03.839 If you believe in him, believe in your heart and confess in your mouth that he died for you on the cross and that he was raised from the grave, you are given righteousness. 41:04.411 --> 41:09.163 You have something known as imparted righteousness and imputed righteousness. 41:09.730 --> 41:13.430 Imparted righteousness means that Jesus takes his righteousness and gives it to you. 41:14.452 --> 41:27.199 Imputed righteousness means that in the heavenly ledger it's written down as so you know what the Bible also says numerous times that you have non imputation of sin. 41:27.771 --> 41:29.296 So there is a heavenly ledger. 41:29.898 --> 41:35.032 Even in Revelation it talks about the book and your name is written in there and Next to it. 41:35.092 --> 41:38.221 If you believe in Jesus, you're trusting in him for his righteousness. 41:39.512 --> 41:40.957 Your name is there and it says righteous. 41:42.252 --> 41:42.573 You know what? 41:42.593 --> 41:45.900 It doesn't say sinner, and it doesn't have any record of your sins. 41:46.241 --> 41:47.704 In fact, grace is so radical. 41:49.651 --> 41:55.679 Paul wrote in Romans David prophesied about it blessed as the man to whom sin is not imputed. 41:56.020 --> 42:01.862 Paul said this is the day you're living and now If you mess up, if you sin, god doesn't even put it on your record. 42:04.371 --> 42:16.010 You know the way some people picture God is this schizophrenic up in heaven with a Erasable ink and a lot of white out and all throughout the day he's writing Okay, they're righteous, now. 42:16.251 --> 42:16.772 Oh, they messed up. 42:16.792 --> 42:17.494 Now, they're not righteous. 42:17.675 --> 42:20.262 Now they're righteous now, they're not righteous, they're righteous, not righteous. 42:21.451 --> 42:23.799 That's why most Christians are walking civil war. 42:24.562 --> 42:25.846 I'm right, I'm righteous. 42:25.946 --> 42:26.930 I'm not, I'm holy. 42:27.331 --> 42:28.475 I'm not, I'm saved. 42:28.715 --> 42:30.581 But I had a bad week, so let me get resaved. 42:31.632 --> 42:35.907 And this is why there's a problem in churches of the same person raising their hand at every altar. 42:35.947 --> 42:36.670 Call for two years. 42:36.730 --> 42:45.830 You Don't have to be born again, again, if you fall, you don't fall a sinner, you fall a saint. 42:46.291 --> 42:47.593 You're still made righteous. 42:47.853 --> 43:01.274 And now you get up, a saint looking at Jesus, and he will empower you to cut the nonsense out, to stop sin, hallelujah. 43:07.482 --> 43:08.403 Let's look at the next one. 43:08.603 --> 43:11.006 Did I read the New Testament part or did I go off right after? 43:11.771 --> 43:12.573 Let's just go back. 43:12.673 --> 43:16.423 Just because I'm legalistic this way, I want to make sure. 43:18.072 --> 43:20.677 And the New Testament, god in parts, I did read it in parts. 43:20.758 --> 43:23.183 Righteousness through the completed work of Jesus. 43:23.613 --> 43:24.820 Oh, I know what I wanted to say. 43:24.860 --> 43:26.510 When I read that, I knew I was missing something. 43:26.652 --> 43:30.837 I Ask, wherever and I travel, if I'm ministering. 43:30.918 --> 43:36.820 On this, I asked this question who is more righteous, you or Jesus? 43:38.231 --> 43:39.918 This is such an important question. 43:41.291 --> 43:48.204 You won't fully understand grace, you won't fully be living under the new covenant until you can immediately answer. 43:50.672 --> 43:56.838 I almost want to call some of you out who's more righteous, you or Jesus? 43:57.821 --> 43:59.721 Jesus right, wrong, who's? 43:59.741 --> 44:00.504 more righteous here. 44:00.525 --> 44:04.871 Jesus, I love to see you squirm. 44:05.040 --> 44:07.588 I didn't mean to pick on you, but I love to see people squirm. 44:08.380 --> 44:08.982 I had to see it. 44:09.023 --> 44:14.226 I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to pick on you and I know you're new so I don't understand. 44:14.400 --> 44:18.188 I understand you're working all that, but you're just representative of so many. 44:18.360 --> 44:22.306 I see it all the time, jesus, because it seems so heretical to say anything else. 44:22.346 --> 44:24.181 Right, god? 44:24.261 --> 44:26.166 Feel that, lean into it. 44:29.162 --> 44:30.599 That feeling of being heretical. 44:30.821 --> 44:36.307 A leader sends you straight to hell or it's really going to bring you closer to Jesus because you're saying bye to past lies. 44:37.721 --> 44:44.267 If this is righteousness, it's a gift and Jesus has given it to you. 44:44.860 --> 44:47.629 He has given to you His righteousness. 44:48.080 --> 44:51.691 He has imparted and imputed His righteousness to you. 44:52.000 --> 44:56.232 When God the Father looks at you, he sees the righteousness of Jesus on you. 44:56.540 --> 45:00.026 When you talk to God the Father, he hears you as though it's Jesus talking to him. 45:00.360 --> 45:02.427 So who's more righteous, you or Jesus? 45:03.501 --> 45:06.584 The same the same. 45:07.941 --> 45:08.664 Oh, you can feel it. 45:09.861 --> 45:14.088 Those of you with a prophetic angle, can you hear the gears turning in the air? 45:15.724 --> 45:18.765 Errrrrrr, does not compute, does not? 45:20.801 --> 45:21.102 Pastor? 45:21.142 --> 45:22.628 I'm uncomfortable with you saying it. 45:22.820 --> 45:24.065 I don't even know how I could say it. 45:24.981 --> 45:27.189 I want you dancing around the house singing it. 45:31.819 --> 45:40.466 Yeah, it's what the enemy doesn't want you to believe, because holiness is linked to that. 45:41.020 --> 45:43.345 Receiving answers to prayer is linked to that. 45:47.481 --> 45:48.926 He died to give you His righteousness. 45:49.960 --> 45:53.169 See, I think the problem also is people think there's degrees of righteousness. 45:54.140 --> 45:55.846 They confuse righteousness with holiness. 45:56.781 --> 46:00.647 There's degrees of holiness, but righteousness is right standing with God. 46:01.441 --> 46:05.084 It's really a binary outcome you either is or you ain't. 46:06.060 --> 46:07.325 There is no in between ground. 46:08.160 --> 46:09.685 That's why the Bible calls you a saint. 46:11.581 --> 46:12.384 You're a saint now. 46:13.380 --> 46:19.507 Now, after you die and the city light church presbytery meets and votes and decides to procure sainthood on your life. 46:20.181 --> 46:20.984 You're a saint now. 46:21.400 --> 46:22.063 You're sin free. 46:22.104 --> 46:23.583 Now You've been made perfect. 46:23.643 --> 46:23.904 Now. 46:25.889 --> 46:35.169 This is I know I'm camping around this at length, but this is so important Because, no matter how many times I ask it, you can just see people. 46:35.961 --> 46:36.744 They're so afraid. 46:37.821 --> 46:39.186 Be afraid of mixing the covenants. 46:40.260 --> 46:40.903 Be afraid of that. 46:41.720 --> 46:44.389 Don't be afraid of declaring that you have the same righteousness of Christ. 46:44.721 --> 46:45.986 It's not you saying I'm all that. 46:46.301 --> 46:50.023 It's you still saying it's all of Him In and of myself. 46:51.005 --> 46:58.230 All my righteousness is as a filthy rag, but because of Him I smell even to the Father. 46:58.270 --> 47:00.204 Like Jesus, I have a fragrance. 47:01.720 --> 47:05.431 My voice is a delight to the Father, just like Jesus is. 47:06.020 --> 47:07.126 This is Bible truth. 47:09.539 --> 47:16.309 All right, next verse Under the Old Testament, god will visit your sin to the third and fourth generation. 47:18.300 --> 47:22.131 Under the New Testament, god will by no means remember your sin anymore. 47:22.480 --> 47:24.366 You have non-imputation of sin. 47:26.220 --> 47:27.144 Next slide, please. 47:28.940 --> 47:47.787 Under the Old Testament, you're under a curse if you do not obey God's commandments perfectly, which, by the way, is why oftentimes, when you read the Old Testament, it can get a little bit how do I say? 47:47.847 --> 47:48.349 Depressing. 47:49.340 --> 47:55.866 Still, the Word of God, it's just as much the Word of God as the New Testament is, but it's a different covenant. 47:55.960 --> 47:57.306 Look, god hasn't changed. 47:57.400 --> 48:00.967 God is the same, but the way he deals with man has changed. 48:01.680 --> 48:04.449 And under the Old Covenant, if you mess up, some kind of curse has to come. 48:04.760 --> 48:08.069 You see David doing just fine at the end of his life. 48:09.200 --> 48:10.243 All those victories. 48:11.065 --> 48:13.091 He was forgiven of sins, all is fine now. 48:13.140 --> 48:17.529 And then, at the end of his life, he has a bright idea to number the people, to number the armies. 48:19.560 --> 48:24.712 He shouldn't have done that because he was relying more on his natural strength than the divine strength that comes from Yahweh God. 48:24.980 --> 48:25.884 So he numbers the people. 48:26.140 --> 48:29.268 It's an act of pride and a curse comes upon the land. 48:30.760 --> 48:32.585 Too many Christians think they're living like that today. 48:35.580 --> 48:42.673 Under the New Testament, you enjoy God's favor and blessing because Jesus has been a made a curse for you on the cross. 48:43.720 --> 48:44.625 You are blessed. 48:45.020 --> 48:46.145 You cannot be cursed. 48:46.820 --> 48:54.491 Hallelujah Another way that preachers love to mix the covenants in order to manipulate the people and get the desired responses. 48:54.532 --> 49:02.328 In the area of tithing, many of you have heard over and over again from Malachi, malachi three, malachi three. 49:02.861 --> 49:05.287 If you don't tithe, you are cursed with a curse. 49:07.160 --> 49:11.971 So, everybody, you come, you bring the whole tithe. 49:14.125 --> 49:14.868 What does that even mean? 49:14.940 --> 49:17.486 The whole tithe, because 10% is 10%. 49:17.760 --> 49:19.106 If it's half a tithe, it's 5%. 49:19.280 --> 49:24.624 But anyway, bring the whole tithe, otherwise you're cursed. 49:26.360 --> 49:27.244 I've never preached that. 49:27.660 --> 49:28.222 Here's the truth. 49:28.283 --> 49:31.307 Under the New Covenant, if you don't tithe, you're not cursed. 49:31.407 --> 49:31.628 Why? 49:31.940 --> 49:33.426 Because you're forever blessed in Jesus. 49:33.840 --> 49:34.904 God is not schizophrenic. 49:34.984 --> 49:36.048 Up and have any racing over. 49:36.068 --> 49:38.185 They were blessed, not the cursed, and the blessed, not the cursed. 49:38.647 --> 49:39.148 You're blessed. 49:39.740 --> 49:46.151 Your finances may not be blessed and you're showing immaturity and you're showing lack of faith and unbelief. 49:48.440 --> 49:50.087 Because still, tithing is a benefit. 49:50.240 --> 49:52.227 When I tithe, it's my way of increasing. 49:52.640 --> 49:54.086 But it's not that you're going to be cursed. 49:54.540 --> 49:57.288 You're not paying protection money to the Godfather. 49:58.140 --> 50:00.267 He's your Father, god, and he loves you. 50:01.080 --> 50:06.132 And if you're tithing in order to avoid a curse, you are the most miserable of Christians. 50:06.860 --> 50:14.407 What a terrible, terrible setup that gets old real quick, like, okay, here's my protection money. 50:14.427 --> 50:20.653 God, don't send Vinnie and Angelo, the two kneecapping angels from heaven, to bust me up and teach me a law. 50:20.740 --> 50:21.844 Won't do it again, oh Lord. 50:23.061 --> 50:25.587 I'll pay my money with a Vic. 50:32.827 --> 50:39.576 And do you know, at City Light, our giving as a church is about two to three, up to three times. 50:39.760 --> 50:45.493 We give up to three times more than our church number, our church attendance, the number of people we have at church. 50:45.900 --> 50:47.606 In other words, we're a very prosperous church. 50:48.400 --> 50:51.727 We're debt free, we support missions all over the world. 50:52.600 --> 50:53.525 We're moving forward. 50:53.760 --> 50:54.602 We have staff. 50:57.470 --> 50:57.730 Why? 50:58.460 --> 51:06.352 Because we have a bunch of new covenant Christians who love the Lord and they tithe because they know it's the right thing, not because they're trying to avoid a curse. 51:08.160 --> 51:09.987 People say is tithing still for today? 51:10.721 --> 51:12.127 Yes, it's for today. 51:12.400 --> 51:13.384 It's the base layer. 51:14.160 --> 51:14.943 It's how you start. 51:15.820 --> 51:19.468 If they had to give a tenth under the old covenant, which was no fun at all. 51:19.849 --> 51:21.111 How much should we give under the new? 51:22.260 --> 51:23.243 The tithe is the beginning. 51:26.620 --> 51:28.047 And you say what is he saying? 51:28.424 --> 51:29.620 Is he saying I should give 30%? 51:29.720 --> 51:30.885 No, here's the beauty of what I'm saying. 51:31.620 --> 51:33.024 You check in with God and find out. 51:34.287 --> 51:37.927 Above the tenth and even the tenth is illegalistic. 51:38.020 --> 51:39.686 It's just what the idea is. 51:40.640 --> 51:42.789 Why should we do less than what they did under the old? 51:44.777 --> 51:47.106 I've been set free, I've been given the righteousness of Jesus. 51:47.126 --> 51:47.789 I have so much more. 51:47.900 --> 51:53.083 I should give more Hallelujah, hallelujah. 51:54.220 --> 51:59.512 I remember once the pastor said he said if they come in for counseling, first question, ask them if they're tithing. 52:00.480 --> 52:03.550 If they say no, then I tell them I can't help you because you're already under a curse. 52:04.021 --> 52:05.820 If you're not tithing, I can't help you under a curse. 52:05.920 --> 52:07.606 Come back when you're tithing and the curse is lifted. 52:09.262 --> 52:11.309 I thought that's a good idea to keep the calendar clean. 52:11.920 --> 52:13.684 That will really that. 52:19.181 --> 52:21.021 Just kidding, I'm just kidding. 52:28.020 --> 52:28.985 You know what's really funny. 52:29.320 --> 52:31.107 Listen, grace is so messed up. 52:31.920 --> 52:33.246 It is the exact opposite. 52:33.680 --> 52:36.168 Christianity is a weird, bizarre faith. 52:36.781 --> 52:37.684 It really really is. 52:38.420 --> 52:40.567 That's why Paul called grace a mystery. 52:41.500 --> 52:43.407 A mystery doesn't mean something that can never be known. 52:43.900 --> 52:49.452 A mystery in Bible language means it's a sacred truth hidden not from you, but for you. 52:50.180 --> 52:52.448 It just requires you asking the Lord for revelation. 52:53.060 --> 52:55.829 It's the same reason why Jesus spoke in parables. 52:56.380 --> 52:57.806 They asked him why do you speak in parables? 52:57.960 --> 53:01.122 He said because I don't want you to know what I'm saying Easily. 53:01.684 --> 53:05.626 You got to show hunger, you got to show desire and I'm not casting pearls before swine. 53:06.740 --> 53:08.940 But if you're hungry for the truth, I'm going to reveal it to you. 53:09.000 --> 53:09.563 Are you cool? 53:10.760 --> 53:11.081 See with me? 53:11.101 --> 53:14.524 So far, christianity weird, bizarre, different than what we think. 53:14.960 --> 53:19.668 My point here is when it comes to tithing, the more I declare that you're not under a curse. 53:19.728 --> 53:22.813 When you tithe and I set people free our giving always goes up. 53:24.460 --> 53:27.990 And most pastors they're afraid to say it because they're afraid they think giving will go down. 53:28.680 --> 53:31.065 No, keep them under the law, keep them afraid of the curse. 53:31.480 --> 53:34.950 But I say, hey, you're blessed and God loves you. 53:35.560 --> 53:40.089 And if you don't tithe, no, you're not going to hell and no, he still forgives you and you have a relationship with him. 53:40.340 --> 53:42.388 And now you're like whoa, he's really nice, isn't he? 53:42.760 --> 53:43.524 He's really good. 53:43.860 --> 53:49.809 And finally you're seeing the love of God and the beauty of Jesus and you're entering into a real new covenant relationship with him. 53:50.100 --> 54:05.846 You're going to be tithing in no time, not because somebody's making you, but because it's a natural out of your spirit, man, natural Hallelujah, all right, just next slide, please. 54:08.260 --> 54:12.282 Everybody having a good time, hallelujah. 54:17.260 --> 54:43.696 One of the immediate fruits we're going to see in this church during this series is your prayer life will get better and your receiving life will get better, so that you're not just a bunch of people asking God for stuff and never receiving, but you actually know you have a hotline to heaven when you're under grace there's a confidence, there's a faith, and you'll be a better receiver when you see who you really are, who his blood has made you to be. 54:46.230 --> 54:55.217 Under the Old Testament, the children of Israel were blessed only if they obeyed God's commandments perfectly, both inwardly and outwardly. 54:56.030 --> 55:06.378 Under the New Testament, believers do not have to depend on their own self-effort, because Jesus fulfilled every single one of the requirements of the law on your behalf. 55:07.330 --> 55:12.233 Remember the whole A plus on the test that Next slide. 55:15.090 --> 55:23.777 Under the Old Testament, relying on self-effort produces behavior modification without heart transformation. 55:24.590 --> 55:26.637 God isn't after behavior modification. 55:26.657 --> 55:27.299 That's religion. 55:27.750 --> 55:29.337 He's after a heart transformation. 55:30.930 --> 55:35.597 True holiness is from the inside out and grace is an empowerment for holiness. 55:36.810 --> 55:41.557 New Testament, as you behold the beauty of Jesus and his finished work on the cross. 55:41.650 --> 55:50.059 It brings about an inner transformation which produces good works that are motivated and here's the key motivated by God's love. 55:51.910 --> 55:56.355 Do you know how many people's entire Christianity is motivated by fear of punishment? 55:58.921 --> 56:02.274 Sad, I was on that path. 56:03.370 --> 56:04.676 Thank God he rescued me. 56:09.650 --> 56:24.454 Pastor, you mean to tell me that Christianity will be unlocked, that I'll experience a much greater blessing when I just love Jesus and let him love me more and look at the cross. 56:27.270 --> 56:28.295 What about all the books? 56:29.630 --> 56:33.514 You know, the 10 doors to the 12 paths, to the 14 highways, to the? 56:34.036 --> 56:35.560 All the stuff I have to do, do, do. 56:36.150 --> 56:36.813 There's some things. 56:36.913 --> 56:41.993 There's some things you can do or not do, but you cannot stop gazing at Jesus and looking at him. 56:43.071 --> 56:46.554 Never forget the cross, never forget his blood. 56:47.510 --> 56:50.475 These are things the enemy wants you to forget, because that's where the power is. 56:50.990 --> 56:55.261 Paul said the gospel is the power of God. 56:55.870 --> 56:58.559 Jesus as a substitute on the cross. 56:59.070 --> 57:00.475 That's the power of God. 57:02.290 --> 57:10.813 When you can declare I am the same righteousness as Jesus, you'll know you're on the right track. 57:12.558 --> 57:13.200 Do it boldly. 57:15.170 --> 57:20.236 Forever, now right, because it's on the internet for the whole world to see forever. 57:20.270 --> 57:21.552 You're never gonna forget this point. 57:21.593 --> 57:22.074 You're welcome. 57:23.897 --> 57:24.699 Ha ha ha ha. 57:25.641 --> 57:26.442 I'm only playing with her. 57:26.482 --> 57:27.404 She's such a good support. 57:27.470 --> 57:28.114 You two are awesome. 57:31.357 --> 57:32.279 Are we on the next slide? 57:32.770 --> 57:33.272 Worship team? 57:33.312 --> 57:33.794 Come on up. 57:34.690 --> 57:36.377 I just feel like that's gonna be that. 57:38.610 --> 57:39.514 There's a lot already here. 57:40.430 --> 57:42.237 We stopped in the middle of Galatians one. 57:43.590 --> 57:44.776 I finished it in the first service. 57:44.850 --> 57:46.376 Don't feel like you're missing out on anything. 57:46.650 --> 57:50.798 There's really not much to say about the second half of the first chapter of Galatians. 57:51.870 --> 57:53.056 I can sum it up if you want. 57:53.170 --> 57:54.771 Shall I sum it up for you, so we don't. 57:54.832 --> 57:55.956 Oh, here's the summation. 57:56.070 --> 57:59.600 He basically just says I got the gospel by revelation. 57:59.970 --> 58:00.934 No man taught it to me. 58:01.791 --> 58:04.659 I got the gospel, this, the new covenant of grace. 58:05.510 --> 58:12.316 I got it by revelation and it's so bizarre and so different than anything I'd ever seen before, definitely different than the old covenant. 58:13.890 --> 58:15.356 I kept it under wraps for a while. 58:15.490 --> 58:21.998 Then I met with the official apostles, the original 12, well, 11. 58:24.437 --> 58:41.860 Judas was busy and some others, some other first century movers and shakers I wanna say that global world pastors types, real movers and shakers. 58:43.211 --> 58:44.001 And he says I told him. 58:44.041 --> 58:44.730 No, this is important. 58:44.770 --> 58:47.319 He says I told him what I got from God. 58:47.910 --> 58:51.515 I told him the gospel, I told him about grace and I checked in with them. 58:52.590 --> 58:54.557 Like this is so radical, is this true? 58:55.130 --> 58:56.938 And then I thought that it is true. 58:57.030 --> 58:58.135 They all agreed on the same thing. 58:58.170 --> 58:59.636 That's exactly what God had given them. 58:59.930 --> 59:02.272 It's known as confirmation, anything less. 59:02.833 --> 59:06.302 You start a cult with some weird wild idea. 59:08.310 --> 59:19.958 Old Testament blood sacrifices of animals covered the sins of the children of Israel for only one year, and the process had to be repeated every year, and every year there was a reminder of your sin. 59:20.470 --> 59:28.880 Under the New Testament, the blood of Jesus has removed your sins past, present and future completely and perfectly, once and for all. 59:30.530 --> 59:36.982 Hallelujah, church, do not mix the covenants. 59:37.630 --> 59:40.239 How will you know if you're mixing the covenants? 59:40.770 --> 59:41.493 You will know. 59:41.553 --> 59:42.838 There will be red flags. 59:42.930 --> 59:48.532 There'll be alerts and alarms that come up Once again, if you're feeling distant from God, you're mixing. 59:49.093 --> 59:50.217 You're never distant from Him. 59:51.370 --> 59:51.892 You're right there. 59:52.414 --> 59:53.116 He's right there. 59:53.830 --> 01:00:05.415 Listen, remember when the sky turned dark and black during the crucifixion and Jesus cried out Eloi, eloi, lama Sabactini, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 01:00:05.810 --> 01:00:30.093 That was the first and last and only time in the history of all time that God the Father separated Himself from Jesus Because Jesus was made sin and, in a sense, god the Father, turned His back on Jesus and Jesus cried out why have you forsaken me as he was made into sin as our substitute, so that today you would never, ever think, oh, I'm distant. 01:00:30.434 --> 01:00:31.939 Or God, why have you forsaken me? 01:00:32.350 --> 01:00:35.339 Because Jesus was forsaken on the cross as your substitute. 01:00:35.750 --> 01:00:37.236 You will never be forsaken. 01:00:37.570 --> 01:00:44.235 The Father turned His back on Jesus on the cross as your substitute, so His face can always shine with love and approval towards you. 01:00:45.170 --> 01:00:50.619 Say, even if I'm messing up, especially when you're messing up, should I continue messing up? 01:00:50.690 --> 01:00:51.774 That this grace may abound? 01:00:52.730 --> 01:00:57.016 No knucklehead, god forbid, draw on that grace. 01:01:01.150 --> 01:01:02.917 I mean, you can dance that dance for a while. 01:01:02.930 --> 01:01:03.653 It's not gonna end. 01:01:03.694 --> 01:01:05.215 Well, why will God punish me? 01:01:05.370 --> 01:01:07.157 No, god's not gonna punish you. 01:01:08.033 --> 01:01:08.836 Well, what's the warning? 01:01:09.270 --> 01:01:10.375 The sin will punish you. 01:01:11.150 --> 01:01:12.456 The sin is the punishment. 01:01:14.111 --> 01:01:17.897 You're getting away with it now, laughing your head off, but the wages of sin is death. 01:01:18.390 --> 01:01:19.153 God's not gonna. 01:01:19.173 --> 01:01:20.077 He has nothing to do with you. 01:01:20.470 --> 01:01:24.461 Engaging in sin stinks of death, it produces death. 01:01:24.750 --> 01:01:26.135 So I don't wanna dance with that devil. 01:01:26.296 --> 01:01:26.597 Amen. 01:01:28.690 --> 01:01:29.554 So what's the solution? 01:01:30.030 --> 01:01:48.037 Grace, jesus, the person of Jesus, everybody, lift your hands, shout this Lord Jesus, thank you for the cross, thank you for your blood, thank you for the new covenant of grace. 01:01:49.410 --> 01:02:00.895 Because of you, jesus, I have been justified, I'm declared righteous, I am accepted and I'm yours forever. 01:02:02.410 --> 01:02:11.715 In Jesus' name, amen, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. 01:02:14.330 --> 01:02:18.698 We'll join us next Sunday as we jump into Galatians, chapter two. 01:02:20.210 --> 01:02:22.358 This is the City Light Church podcast. 01:02:22.790 --> 01:02:31.417 If you've missed any part of today's message or if you would like to find out more about Pastor Boyan Jansik in City Light Church, visit us at citylightnyccom. 01:02:32.390 --> 01:02:34.577 That's citylightnyccom. 01:02:35.590 --> 01:02:38.619 Feel free to visit us online or in person anytime. 01:02:39.090 --> 01:02:40.596 We would love to connect with you. 01:02:41.550 --> 01:02:49.077 We pray that you have been encouraged today, that you have been reminded how much God loves you and that you are surrounded by grace. 01:02:49.930 --> 01:02:50.814 Thank you for listening. 01:02:51.330 --> 01:02:56.835 Make sure that you subscribe to City Light Church podcast wherever you find your favorite podcasts worldwide.
